So Sorry to see one of the great guys pass on. I never worked with him but took his place as Lieutenant in Lad. 127 when he retired. I heard many good stories of him as everyone in the firehouse loved him. I had big shoes to fill. He was a great man and fireman. I finally met him many years ago at our many stag dinners that we continue to have over the years. He was at our last one just a month ago. Sad to see him go. God, who loves firemen, be with his soul. God bless. GD
My sincerest condolences to the Fusco family. I met Joe my first day on the job as a Proby in L127 in August 1981. I was assigned to his working groups a few months later. I knew right away there was something special about Joe. Under his guidance and supervision, I not only became a competent firefighter but also a better man. There were many times his presence and composure, his good nature and fierce determination got us through tough situations. He was a true leader, tough but fair and he always had our backs. Always. Upon my promotion to Lt, I asked Joe what words of advise he could offer. He responded, " Every time you put that uniform on, you work for the city but you're here for your men. I never forgot that advice. I had the wonderful pleasure last year of telling Joe how much his years of mentoring helped me as an officer and a person. He blushed and shook my hand. I know you're feeling the love Joe. Rest in peace and thank you. Eric Sands
